The coin is a British "Jubilee Head" coin featuring Queen Victoria's portrait, which was introduced in 1887 to mark her Golden Jubilee. The portrait was designed by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm and depicts the Queen wearing a small crown and a long veil. The obverse inscription reads "VICTORIA DEI GRATIA," meaning "Victoria by the grace of God".
This specific design was used on various coins, including the gold sovereign and the short-lived double florin. The double florin was a silver coin equivalent to four shillings and was minted from 1887 to 1890. It was sometimes nicknamed "Barmaid's Ruin" because its size was similar to the more valuable crown coin, leading to confusion. The Jubilee Head portrait was replaced in 1893 with the "Old Head" portrait
